Week 1 Reflection

The start of this class has really opened my eyes and spiked my interest in our world history. To begin, I never looked at the world in a way that the stars are technically our brothers and sisters. I didn’t realize that people thought of the world in that way. At first, I had this funny look on my face as if to say, “What are you even talking about?” Plants, trees and stars are not our relatives but when you think about I can see how that could be true. The first thing that popped into my head while listening to the lecture and then reading the text was religion. I started to think about what religious people thought of this idea. It really makes me want to read more into it. Although I enjoy learning about religions and find them fascinating, I personally am not religious so it’s very interesting to me to learn about different takes about how human nature came about.

Another topic that really blew my mind was the fact that there used to be different human species before us. Maybe I sound stupid or ignorant for not knowing this or thinking that we are the only humans to walk this earth, but I truly had no idea. I’ve taken countless history classes in my educational career, as they are required, but never have I ever learned that there were different human species. For some reason, this took me by surprise and became extremely fascinated with this fact and want to learn more. I’ll have to admit that I personally was dreading this class. History has never been a class that I wanted to take but I do think that it has been the way that it was taught to me in the past. Just by the lecture alone I could tell that I wouldn’t dread this class and the reading wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. I look forward to learn more about where we came from and possibly where we are headed.
